The BMI calculator can be a very useful tool that measures whether you are overweight, underweight, or just right. Your weight alone is not enough to be able to tell the difference, since the tall and thin man is likely to weigh more women who are short, but not grouchy. Body mass index also known as BMI can overcome this issue by calculating the ratio that compares your weight with height and then returning one number. This number will fit into a specific category in the scale of BMIranges which can be defined as underweight, normal, overweight and obese.
To work out your BMI by yourself, and what the number is for you, you'll need to be aware of:

How do I calculate BMI
Before we get started, let's look at the calculation:
- Your weight is divided (in kgs) in relation to your height (in meters).
- Divide the answer by your height once more for your BMI.
The formula for the body mass index is as like:
BMI = weight/height2.
Normal BMI
Our BMI calculator makes it an easy task to determine your ideal BMI. Remember that BMI is a rough estimate. The result could be untrue for people who are well muscled (such as bodybuilders) or who have lost significant quantities of muscle (such as those aged).

BMI ranges
There are five fundamental ranges within the BMI scale:
- The term "underweight" means less than 18.5
- Normal weight = 18.5 - 24.9
- Overweight = 25 - 29.9
- Obesity = 30 - 35
- Severe obesity = 35 and more
The BMI Prime offers a useful modification to our own BMI calculator. It's a decimal figure where 1.0 = an upper limit for that "normal BMI" range. It's a great way to find out if you're overweight or not. In the event that your BMI Prime is higher than 1, you've got a bit of weight to lose.
Making use of our calculator to calculate the Body Mass Index

Click the lock icon to hold that value in place while you experiment with the numbers in other boxes. This is... unless you plan on growing larger!
